At the beginning of its establishment, Peking Union Medical College pioneered China's eight year medical education, higher nursing education, resident physician training system, and modern public health education, achieving a series of important results such as "Peking Man Research," "Monoephedrine Extraction," and "Black Fever Research; The Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences has made creative contributions in the research and development of polio vaccines, the nationwide control and basic elimination of leprosy, the creation and promotion of chemotherapy for eradicating choriocarcinoma, and the independent research and industrial production of antibiotics in China.
